If that did happen, I'd likely pattern it after Unplugged but brand it as something different. I don't doubt that there could be something like that or that I could get it started... really is just a matter of figuring out how to get it off the ground.

There is nothing stopping you (and like minded believers in Tx) from starting something similar. If memory serves, there are branches of Unplugged in other cities. You might need to come under some kind of partnership agreement with Unplugged's leadership, but with a local church or two also backing and providing accountability, there should be no reason why such fellowship ends. You would just be starting it from scratch oh trail blazer ;)

Thanks for the thoughts bro. That Dyer piece was on point! I linked it below for anyone that wants to read it.

I agree with you on the whole UI thing and the need to build better tools for the task at hand. We should talk more about that offline and put some thought into and sketch out some ideas like we've done in the past.

As far as the PowerPoint goes, a lot does depend on the audience. If I were doing a small group or in a place where I knew everyone had tech & the ability to receive notes to their device, I would have no issue going that route. Part of the issue becomes how do you do this with those who aren't as techy without making them feel left out or behind the times.

Definitely some stuff to think about, for sure!

Heh, you should see John Dyer's post today. The first section fits this.

Now, about behavior and context. You don't need to use different bibles, you need one built for studying, outlining, and mapping to a presentation/sermon. If you will, you need a better UI for the digital bibles and accessories. Using more physical assets isn't a solution as much as its a workaround. It doesn't exist in current bible software, so build it ;)

About running PowerPoint/Proclaim, ew. Find your audience. Do they have devices? If so, why wouldn't you leverage the ability to SMS or Bluetooth the outline/presentation to them before you teach (that time when folks are actually fellowshipping before the service), or having a common area that publishes the URL to the sermon/presentation auto-magically (for example using ifttt and a distribution list to email, tweet, FB, and SMS this with one action). Last time I presented, because the audience all had some device, I sent them the URL to the presentation, and instead of using a projector, spent that time with making sure my content encouraged eye contact as well as reading. And yes, I was successful in this (though it was told later that my actions were quite weird).

Rethink the context around the capabilities of the tools, not just around the comfort of your ability to create with former versions of those tools.

I had no intention of writing that tonight. It wasn't even on my mind, but after seeing that video I felt led to start writing. Felt a bit therapeutic.
